PROMOTE! 03-13-99 Copyright 1999 Mail-Co Marketing
================================================================
Hello and welcome to a special edition of PROMOTE!
We are happy to report the archives are still showing ever
increasing numbers as they are being read online.
More exposure for those of you who have posted listings here.
Our visitors hits are rising everyday too.
Welcome to the 40+ new subscribers! Look for larger editions
of PROMOTE! as we grow and more listings come in. Of
course we still pull from the many newsletters we read, as well
as our daily trips out on the net looking for unique sites.
Our current backlog of listings is 90+, so if you haven't seen
your ad, its probably because of the backlog. We are at the
end of Febuary's listings now.
PROMOTE!'s website PromoteFree.com is growing and adding free
promotion resources each day. Be sure to visit to promote your
site free.
Check out our new discussion forum for discussing
promotion topics and for posting your site to be visited
for comments and review. This is also an area for PROMOTE!
readers to post comments, ask questions and congregate as
well, so ya'll come on out to the forum and join in. Maybe
you are looking for a specific resource, post it here, could
be one of the other readers or visitors can tell you where to
find it.

Enjoy the listings.

We have also added a section on the site for the biz opp type
listings that are sent to us. Since we normally don't post
them, you can now view them at the site. We will include the
link each week in PROMOTE! so you can read them if you choose.
This way they don't get left out entirely.

Last Week's FYI:
Last issue in FYI I mentioned how about a site for dead links?
"just end up another forgotten "dead" link. Wonder if there is
a dead link cemetary out there?"
Just to show you we do scour the web in search of stuff check
out the below link (we found it accidently in our travels):
Ghost Sites

See ya;

================================================================
This Week's FYI:
Scam going around:
Person calls and says they are from your bank, and working on
the Y2K problem. Says customers need to transfer their accounts
to a bond account designed to protect your money till the
problem is resolved. Then they ask you to verify your account
numbers, and give verbal authorization to tranfer funds to this
specially designed account.
Of course some elderly people might unknowingly do this in fear
of losing all their money in the bank.
If anyone calls with this sort of thing, ask their name, phone,
Bank they represent, then tell them you will come to the bank
in person to take care of the matter. DON'T give out bank
info and verbal authorization! This is a scam that is being
done across the country.

Tips:
I bet some of you like to have fancy wallpaper in the
background using Windows? I use to, but I'm pretty hum drum now,
not mention it does slow the computer down some when loading
graphic intense wallpaper. (tip in a tip...grin....)
However for those of you who find wallpaper you would like to
use as an image, its very simple:
Just right-click the image and choose "Set as Wallpaper." Works
in Navigator and Explorer.
--------------------------
Ever wanted to put a bookmark on your desktop that you visit
a lot?
NetScape:
Create a bookmark entry in Netscape for the page you wish to
connect to from the desktop. Then, go to edit bookmarks, and
drag and drop the bookmark entry to your desktop, and you can
modify the new shortcut as you wish. Acually in NetScape the
bookmark remains in the bookmark to, but appears on the desktop
as well.
Explorer:
Do the same, add it to favorites, then organize favorites,
drag and drop. Only with Explorer the bookmark is moved out of
the bookmark file to the desktop.
================================================================
Software:
Recase is a tiny but handy folder and filename case-convertion
tool:
It allows you to equalize your filenaming and bring order in
your directories! Right click a file (or select a bunch), and
select one of the Recase options. This is especially useful
when ftping files to a website. They are case sensitive.
7Kb Zipped. FREE!

Kill Win

of Windows quickly with reboot, logoff, restart, exit to a
DOS prompt, and shutdown functions. You can also issue commands
to close all open folders, close all open windows, shut down
all running procedures and programs, and open an MS-DOS prompt.
It has a built-in timer for performing any of its actions at
a preset time or at the end of a countdown. Options enable you
to customize its menu, show a message before executing an
action, wait until all Windows are closed before
an action is executed, and a lot of more options.

"You've got the intellectual credentials: You did
pretty well in school, maybe have a college diploma or
even an advanced degree. You got high scores on your
SATs and GREs, or even on that holy grail of the
intellect, the IQ test. You may even be in Mensa,
the select high-IQ club.
That's fine when it comes to intelligence of the
academic variety. But how bright are you outside
the classroom, when it comes to life's stickier
moments? There you need other kinds of resourcefulness
-- most especially emotional intelligence, a different
way of being smart."

DigitalJames.com is a blossoming dream of mine. Always leaning
toward arts and creativity I have found a new outlet for
expression through the use of computers. Given that the
"digital age" is alive and well among us, I thought that having
my own domain where I could post my work was perhaps the best
way of sharing my imagination. Computers have only lately become
part of my everyday life. The early examples of my wallpaper
reflect this easily. As I become more comfortable with the
nuances of computer generated graphics, I feel that my work
can only continue to improve. Thanks as always,
Digital James
