PROMOTE!'s Biz Opportunity Ads:
http://www.promotefree.com/biz_opp.htm/?419
Remember of course it is sometimes tuesday evening before I
get the updates to the very latest ads sent in online.
Please remember I'm not biased against biz opp ads, but PROMOTE!
wasn't started as an ad sheet for biz opp ads, thats why I
put the biz opp link in PROMOTE! and added the page to the
promotefree.com site, to accomodate those type ads. They
increase each week. If your listing doesn't appear in PROMOTE!
then most likely it was put in the biz opps or scheduled to be.

FYI:
====== FBI Update,
Search Engine Mystery
Hello everyone, I have a couple of comments this week. (yawn..
I know, I know...grin)
FBI Update: We met with the FBI on the situation with our
daughter after she returned from her Florida College Scouting
trip. (Ouch the word college just makes my wallet ache..) It
seems the "young man" I mentioned is 40+ years of age and had
met several teens across the U.S. and (alledgely) raped and
assualted one teen girl as well. They found our daughters phone
number in his address book and database on his computer. My
daughter immediately knew his AOL screen name and 3 phone calls
from him that she received (unknown to us I might add). Anyway
he is currently in jail awaiting trial and will be out of
circulation for quiet a while according to the FBI agent.
Fortunately our daughter immediately knew what he was after,
and ended the phone conversations back in Nov. of 98.
All well that ends well for us, but not so for some, to whom
I offer my sympathy. We just never know who lurks behind the
keyboard a few hundred miles away. Be sure to stress to your
children the importance of online caution and common sense
when dealing with strangers online.
** By the way 40-ish is a young man...grin... at least I
think so. **

Search Engine Mystery
I don't know if any of you use Altavista search engine much,
but up till 2 weeks ago promotefree.com enjoyed several top
10 positions on search words, including #1 for "free web
promotion". I'll get to my point in a minute.
I read this week where AltaVista will be accepting bids for
search words. This has me wondering how this affects the users,
not to mention those of you/us that have sites and list them
with the search engines.
Now my point: Since promotefree.com dissappeared from the top
listings, I noticed that ALL of the previous sites that were
clustered with me missing as well. I also noticed the #1 site
now on the search I listed above, is for web design not
promotion. hhhmmmmmm go figure. Wonder if this reindexing was
in preparation for the soon to be auctioned key words.
My question to you for comments is:
How do you feel this will affect users of the search engines
since many will/are following suit. Isn't that one of the
beauties of the internet, the abundance of free information
and the ability to find that information via searches? What
happens when you do a search and all the commercial sites
come up at the top. Do you think there will be a degradation
of the search engines because of this?

Tips:
Did you use to have a speaker icon on your taskbar and now its
missing and you would like to restore it?
Do the following:
Left-click the <Start> Menu
Choose <Settings>
Choose <Control Panel>
Double-click <Multimedia> in the Control Panel window.
Under properties in the Multimedia dialog box that pops up,
click the box <Show volume control on the
taskbar> so it is checked then Click <OK>
(Do the same to remove it again, just uncheck the box)
------------------------------------
There are times when using Windows Dial Up Connection or
Networking or other network or communications programs that
you need your IP address. Here is a quick way to find it.
Choose <Start>
<Run>
type: winipcfg
click <OK>
A box will appear showing all of your connection info for your
IP address and subnet mask address.
You may never need this, but then some day you may be on the
phone with a support person who asks "Whats your IP address",
then you can quickly tell them.

Suggested Software, etc.:
20/20 Graphics and Images Program FREEWARE
20/20 is an image viewer, capture and annotation program.
It also creates slide shows and generates thumbnails.
It looks similar to Paint Shop Pro, with filters and effects,
and you can stretch, flip, rotate, mirror and many, many more
features, a downloader for sure especially considering its free.

----------------------------------------
After my comments about search engines, here is a program that
may really grow in popularity. Many of you may and then again
may not know about it. For those that don't, it is a gem.
WebFerret
Searches the internet search engines for you and
brings back a long list of sites matching your query. Nice
utility and its fast too. What I like is browsing the sites
while they are still being found and listed in real time.
They have a free version and a Pro version, plus several other
free ferrets too for downloading.

CONK! WEBSITE CLAIMS COPYRIGHT SYMBOL AS ITS TRADEMARK
MINNEAPOLIS, MN - (INB) -- CONK!, the daily
humor magazine and "alternative online service" at
http://conk.com announced today that it is claiming
the
standard "c-in-circle" copyright symbol roughly akin to "(c)"
as their trademark, and will begin using it as such immediately.
"It has a 'c' in it," said the site's creator and Executive
Producer James Touchi-Peters, "and by sheer coincidence,
our name starts with a 'c', too. Plus, it's so darn cute.
How could we resist?"
