FYI: Readship Poll (Please respond)
Well we took a couple of days off and went to Gatlinburg, Tenn.
this weekend. I'm glad to get back though and took today off to
rest up from the mini-vacation (How ironic!)!
My wife loves to browse the shops and stuff, and my daughter
loves to ride the rides and look at the guys and sharp cars.
(what happened to my little girl...)
During this time off it gave me a chance to reflect on PROMOTE!
some and how it has gradually changed since the first issue.
This must be our marketing issue, we are heavy into marketing
listings this week. Instead of an FYI where I ramble on..grin..
I would like to take a poll of why or what you like or dislike
in PROMOTE!
Please send me your comments, I would love to hear from every
subscriber on the below questions, this would help us to know
more about what our readership wants, and why you subscribe
to PROMOTE!. Very soon I will be making a transition to full
time on the Net with my marketing and consulting and also
be devoting much more time to PROMOTE! as well.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN: We are going to radically change PROMOTE!,
but rather we want to know more about our readers, if there are
enough comments about a certain area, then certainly we will
consider making a change. That is why I would really like to
hear from everyone. But it will have to be an overwhelming
response before any radical changes would be made.
Questions:
Should we include more tips and software, an article every
now and then and maybe less listings or what?
Do you enjoy the FYI column and the reader comments, even
though it may be about any subject?
Do ya'll enjoy the marketing listings more
or general listings more or do you like both?
Do you like the link to the biz opps or should I include
the biz opp listings themselves in PROMOTE!?
Would you be interested in an actual classified section at the
end of PROMOTE where you could place cheap ads or do you think
that messes up a newsletter? Or does it make a difference to
you?
Do your have a website, business, or newsletter or list you
promote?
Do you feel 100-125 words is plenty for the free listings
we provide in PROMOTE!?
As PROMOTE! grows would you object to a 2 email issue such
as Part 1 and Part 2, or do you think PROMOTE! should be
published more often if the it grows that much?
Do you use the info you find in PROMOTE! in your
publication?
What is your primary reason for reading PROMOTE, and any other
comments you may have?
May I use your comments in a special edition of PROMOTE! so
everyone can see what the readers think? If yes do want your
link and email included?
PLEASE: (one question or all of them just whatever rings
your bell....grin...)
I would love to hear your comments, I hope to hear from each
and every one of you! I will probably publish a special edition
of PROMOTE! with the comments in it, if the response is great
enough to justify a special edition. Please include if its ok
to use your comments.
mailto:listings@budgetware.com
or send your email with your comments to:
listings@budgetware.com
Feel free to copy and paste the questions into your email and
mail back your answers to each if you like.
Thanks so much in advance;
Gary

Net Manners comments from last week's FYI:
>I feel that if someone takes the time to try to help
>you, their response should not be met with an autoresponder
>promoting your offers. What do you think?
--------------------------------------------------------------
I completely agree with you! I spend a lot of time answering
personal and business emails! I would never dare to use an
autoresponder in that fashion. To me it is just plain rude.
In
fact, I was so teed off by treatment such as this that I wrote
an article for the first issue of my ezine called "The Power of
Personal Promotion".
I discussed how people should treat others with respect and help
those that need it without always trying to sell something at
the same time. I have had many good responses to the article!
Keep up the good work and I don't blame you if you don't want to
help him! I sure would be hesitant...

>Thanks for your comments, obviously we agree, though if he
>writes again I will try to help him, I just can't help myself
>in that respect. ...grin... Gary.
You are welcome and yes, knowing me I would help him anyways too!
But, doesn't it just get frustrating sometimes :]
>I'll include your comments in the next issue;
Feel free! I am sure I'll get some replies criticizing my
attitude, but that is how I feel! Marketers should treat others
as people, not commodities!
Take care,
Eva :]
--------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. ;^) I agree 100%. Give 'em a boot with a filter to
the
trash can as well. If the people I help are not appreciative
enough to have enough common sense as to know how to treat those
who help then they won't get much support from me either.

I have to agree with you on this one! I have just started
experimenting with autoresponders, but really don't like them
very much. I prefer to answer all my e-mails personally.
Our
goal is to run a small business with a small-town feel.
You
just can't do that if you automate!
As we grow (hopefully!!), the personal e-mail will still be
important. Since we tend to take our business elsewhere when
we
can't "talk" to a real person, why should we expect less of our
own customers?

--------------------------------------------------------------
I agree wholeheartedly with this! I answer all of my e-mails
personally, then if applicable I will send an autoresponder
message. But I always send a personal reply first to let the
person know they will receive this message.
I believe in doing business with people, and I think people
would rather do business with a person. I think the use of
autoresponders has gotten out of hand, and we need to get back
to person to person communications. Sure it takes extra time,
but good customer service is worth it! I want the folks who I
do business with to feel that I do care about them and that I
will be available personally to help with any of their
concerns.

(** this is a comment from the FYI about search engines charging
for key words that I forgot, and feel inclined to include.
My apology for the oversight **)
Hi Gary:
I agree with you that one of the beauties of the internet is
having the abiliaty to surf for key words and find sites related
to what you are looking for. But...
I also think that the only sites that something like this will
affect will *be* the big commercial businesses and smaller web
sites who do no promotion or marketing.
Our site has always ranked in the top 10 on the search engines
for a lot of our search words but the funny thing is... that's
not how we get our sales or build our opt-in list.
Purchasing keywords is great for the passive marketer I guess.
But it will be us (the ones using your site as a reference point
;-D
who will be making more sales.) And...it didn't cost us nearly
as much.
I truly believe that making sales through the search engines
will be one time shots. Keeping customers and having them come
back for more is what your site offers. The short and long of it,
and looking back this was real long. I believe the affect this
will have in our business will be very small and might even open
up some more doors for us, who knows?

(** For some reason I bet this will be a high volume list **)
over40talk is an unmoderated list for folks over 40 who like to
talk online. Topics are not restricted; anything of interest to
list members may be discussed. Friendly chat is the order of
the day, but serious topics are encouraged. Soul-baring is
optional. Flaming and personal insults are definitely not
allowed, but some of our list members are passionate about their
opinions, so discussions may sometimes get a tad heated.
There also may be many messages a day, so folks who don't
like e-mail--and/or who don't know how to use their delete
key--should not join. Oh, and don't join if you just want to
read other people's writing. Participation is semi-mandatory and
long-time lurkers will be unsubbed.
As for our age restriction, our list co-owner says: "You know,
when I've thought about a list, I've thought of making it
Over 40, which makes me feel like an old far_--like 'Hey, quiet
those kids down!' On the other hand, while I actually don't
care WHAT is talked about --even food, recipes, right to current
events or weather--I just want stuff other than "hehehehehehe,
Gracie! ROTFLMAO! Cya later!'" So, as those trivial types
of messages seem to dominate chat lists populated by young
people,
we've decided to practice a bit of age chauvinism here:
If you aren't at least 40, STAY OUT!
